Cirebon has a historical connection to the spread of Islam in Indonesia, especially the island of Java. One of the nine prominent figures (wali sanga) who spread the religion of Islam who is well known in Indonesia, namely Sunan Gunung Jati or Syarief Hidayatullah, is also the first sultan in the Cirebon Sultanate which was formerly known as Keraton Pakungwati. This figure is the main scholar who spread Islam in the western part of the island of Java. The tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati is located in a burial complex which is located on an area of ​​five hectares, and is divided into two graves. The main complex is the complex where the tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati is located, namely on Mount Sembung, which contains about 500 tombs. At this location, there is also the tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati's wife, namely Princess Ong Tien Nio (Nyi Ratu Rara Semanding) who came from China. Princess Ong Tien Nio was the daughter of Emperor Hong Gie of the Ming Dynasty. So do not be surprised if there are so many ceramics that adorn this burial complex. When visiting the Makan Sunan Gunang Jati complex, each visitor must take off their footwear, fill in the guest book, and are expected to make a voluntary contribution to the caretaker who maintains this burial complex.
