Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa

Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa

Sang Cipta Rasa Mosque was built during the Sunan Gunung Jati era in 1408. At that time, Sunan Kalijaga and Raden Sepat were assigned to become the architecture in the construction of the mosque. Five hundred workers from Majapahit, Demak and Cirebon, were deployed to complete the construction which is said to have been carried out in just one night. The mosque's architectural style takes a mix of Javanese and Hindu Majapahit styles. This can be seen from the gate in the courtyard of the mosque and the porch, as well as the roof of the mosque which resembles a Joglo house, namely the traditional house of the Javanese people. In general, this mosque has 9 doors as the entrance. One main door and eight on the right and left. The main door of the mosque, which measures 240 cm, is only opened during Friday prayers and other Islamic holidays, such as the Prophet's birthday, Eid al-Fitr prayers, and Eid al-Adha. While the door on the side is made lower with a size of 160 cm. This symbolizes a form of respect and humility when entering a mosque. Apart from that, it also aims to equalize the position of humans in the eyes of God. The Sang Cipta Rasa Mosque was originally built with 12 supporting poles or teachers' pillars made of teak wood. However, due to the age factor, the wooden supports are supported by poles made of iron and added 18 new supports during the restoration that was carried out in 1977.
